John Hopkins born @ 1803 was a civil engineer who worked on the Erie Canal in the 1820's and went on to work on other canal and RR projects in Ohio, WI and MI. He married Sarah Chmaberlain, d/o Deacon Thomas, on Mar 9, 1826.
They had one son I know of named Canvas born 1830 in Easton, PA.
We think John Hopkins is the son of John Hopkins b1758 and grandson of William Hopkins and Rachel Cole(s) of Oyster Bay, Queens Co., NY. If so, I have much info on this RI Gov Stephen Hopkins 1707-1785 line, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
