william chamberlain rye new hampshire 1700s

The mystery of the genealogy of William Chamberlain has led me to think that he may have arrived by ship in the early 1700s , perhaps Boston or Portsmouth N.H. We know he married Mary Rand in 1729 in Rye, N.H. and subsequently moved to Maine and died in Scarborough Me. in 1781. The marriage records in Rye have a ? after his name so the question is where did he come from. There is no evidence that he derived from the Mass. Chamberlains. I know there was a significant number of ships from Northern Ireland in the early 1700s destined to colonize Maine. Does anyone know where I might obtain ships logs from that time period?
