You didn't ask about Samuel Chamberlain's parents or ancestry, but he is believed to be the son of Samuel & Rebecca? Chamberlain, per the following U. S. Census record:
- 1870 Census, Lincoln Twp., Kahoka P. O., Clark Co., MO, p. , #77/79, 3 Aug 1870, Samuel Chamberlain, age 34, -/$300, farm laborer, b. IN, U. S. Citizen; Rebecca, age 28, keeps house, b. OH; Elizabeth, age 14, attends school, b. MO; Samuel, age 6, b. IA. Note that Rebecca would have been only about 13 years of age when married, if she is indeed the mother of Elizabeth and Samuel.
This Samuel Chamberlain's origins remain unknown. He has not been identified in the 1850 or 1860 census. Please note that this is NOT the same person as Samuel Chamberlain, age 16, b. IN, listed in the 1850 census, who is the son of Solomon and Esther Chamberlain of Black Twp. and/or Mount Vernon, Posey Co., IN - known descendants of Richard(1) Chamberlain - I maintain a separate lineage for this family if you have any questions about it.
Samuel D. Chamberlain, born c1862, Iowa, was married to Clara Carr, 23 Sep 1883, in Canton, Lewis Co., MO. Here are my research notes for him:

Marriage data from IGI record, but no other record of him in IGI data. Ref. Chamberlain Chain query, Vol. 26, p. 25, & GenForum Chamberlain postings, dated 25 Sep 1998; 31 Jul 2000, by Abby Allen Chamberlain, P.O. Box 351, Mountain View, WY 82939, [Email: wyabbya@hotmail.com ... previously listed as achamber@union-tel.com ]; also her Ancestry.com Chamberlain Message Board posting, dated 19 Jun 2000, which lists a 21 Sep 1883 marriage date.
Abby Chamberlain says this couple was married in Canton, Lewis Co., MO, they disappeared, leaving 2 children, Eliose, and Joseph Franklin, the grandfather of Abby's husband. LDS Pedigree Resource File record, listing additional data for this family, posted by Abby Chamberlain, P.O. Box 351, Mountain View, Wyoming 82939. See also Abby Chamberlain's RootsWeb query for Lewis Co., MO, dated 17 Jun 2000, which states Samuel D. Chamberlain b. c1862; marriage date listed, indicating Clara wasn't yet 18, and had written permission from A. Leeter or Teeter (handwriting terrible). She left Canton with her son Joseph Franklin Chamberlain, and ended up in Nevada where she died; buried in Walla Walla, WA. Family hist. is that Samuel owned or was a store clerk in Canton, was born & died there, but the 1930 Census record for his son Joseph F. indicates that Joseph's father was born in IA and his mother in MO.
Canton, in Lewis Co., MO, is situated along the west bank of the Mississippi River, about 20 miles north of Quincy, Adams Co., IL, from which the family might have come, although no evidence to suggest so, and a check of Adams Co., IL, 1850 & 1860 census listings does not suggest any match. Keokuk, IA is to the north. Clark Co., MO is located immediately north of Lewis Co., and just west from Keokuk, IA, with Kahoka located near the river, about 10 miles n.w. of Keokuk.

Data from LDS Pedigree Resource File record, which states place of birth in WWI draft registration. Data submitted by Abby Chamberlain, P. O. Box 351, Moutain [sic] View, Wyoming, 82939. He sang with Columbia "4" barbershop quartet. Data from Abby Chamberlain, who says this couple performed in Vaudeville and lived in NV & WA, and calls him Joseph Washington Chamberlain in one GenForum posting, dated 25 Sep 1998. He was also an undertaker in Walla Walla.
