This is William Pulaski Chamberlain, b. 26 May 1800, TN or NC, d. 7 Apr 1863, Hot Spring Co., AR, who was married, 24 Oct 1824, in TN, to Martha "Patsy" Ewell, b. 2 Jun 1807, TN, d. 1853, Hot Spring Co., AR, daughter of John & Mary (Kennerly) Ewell; 10 children listed, including Elizabeth Virginia Chamberlain, b. 13 Jan 1832, Tennessee, prob. Shelbyville, Bedford Co., d. 1864, Hot Spring Co., AR, who was married, 25 Oct 1848, in Lincoln Co., TN, to Felix M. Cook, b. c1822, TN, with several children listed for them (they later lived in Kansas). William married 2nd) 21 Feb 1856, in Malvern, Hot Spring Co., AR, to Jane or Jensy Kinnick, b. 15 Jan 1819, NC, daughter of John Adam Kinnick and Ann Call, d. 18 Jan 1872, probably at Magnet Cove, AR, with two children listed for this second marriage. William's father was said to be a Thomas Chamberlain of Surrey Co., NC, who moved to Lincoln Co., TN in 1810, per the 1935 account of Nan Strong Chamberlain [1863-1948], who said that Thomas was of Scotch-Irish ancestry. William's siblings were said to include John & Tom, who moved to Mississippi, and a sister Ann, who married a Timmons (nothing more known about them). As far as I know here, this part of the genealogy has never been proven. Family tradition says that William was murdered during the Civil War on his Arkansas homeplace by Union bushwackers and Cherokee Indians in that county (see Nan Strong's account of this incident, which lists the date as 9 Apr 1863). Chamberlains and Thompsons are buried in the family cemetery there. Several members of this family fought for the Confederacy and were killed during the Civil War, I see.

My research notes also provide the following information: See Chamberlain Key, Vol. IX, No. 3, p. 67, etc., for a long article by Ramona Chamberlain Smith on this particular family and other families of Tennessee. It reprints Nan Strong's 1935 account, as well. She reports, among other things, that the old Chamberlain graveyard on the hill, where a number of other family members are buried, still can be found in Hot Spring County, AR although the grave markers are mostly lost or damaged. This article also lists a page of land records for this family, beginning 1822 in Bedford Co., TN, in 1840 in Lincoln Co., TN, and in Arkansas - not transcribed here. NOTE: the first of these records, in Bedford Co., TN, lists W. P. Chamberland and David Chamberland as witnesses to a deed - this David has not been identified [possibly the same person as Davis Chamberlain, b. c1775, son of Thomas(3), who is mentioned in the following paragraph.

Persons researching this family are invited to contact me via Email for additional discussion & sharing of data, including, if desired, the address of Ramona Chamberlain Smith. In anticipation of questions about Ramona's ancestry, here is her ancestral line of descent as I have it listed here: Ramona Lois(10), George Alexander Jr.(9), George Alexander(8), Lawson Noonan(7), Charles C.(6), Charles(5), Thomas(4), William(3), Thomas(2), Thomas(1) Chamberlain [there is uncertainty concerning the connection between Thomas (2) and Thomas(1)]. A lineage for William(2) Chamberlain, b. 1718, Mecklenburg Co., VA, and some descendants, was published about 10 years ago in the Chamberlain Chain, Vol. 26, pp. 1-4, Branch 137, submitted by Willa (Mrs. Robert) Kral of Corsicanna, TX. Also, I have several other researchers and correspondants listed here, for this family. But, to be very clear, I have nothing here to connect this family with that of William Pulaski Chamberlain, the subject of this message.
