Ted, you ARE a bloodhound! Thank you very much! I didn't notice that you had posted a follow-up until I had already checked out the family. They were really trying to lose us with Jeremiah being Perry, Patrick being Earl, etc., but you stayed on their trail. Perry Co., OH, 1860, SELBY: Thomas, 55; Julia A., 45; Jeremiah B., 24; Joshua F.[Fletcher], 22; Eliza A., 20; Margaret, 18; Hariet, 16; Alpheus B. [Benton], 9; Josephine, 3; Victoria, 1. Pike Twp., Perry Co., OH, 1880, SELBY: Thomas, 75, MD MD MD [12 Nov. 1804, MD - 5 Apr. 1887, bu. Rehoboth with parents Eli & Ruth] wf. Juley, 65, PA PA PA [Julia A. WRIGHT] dau. Victory [Frances Victoria], 21 Clayton Twp., Perry Co., 1880, SELBY: Joshua F., 42, & Eliza, 42. Perry [Jeremiah] B., 44; Angeline [SNIDER], 35; Anna L., 9; Dora, 5; Louisa, 3. [Patrick Earl was b. 1884.] Perry Co., OH, 1900, SELBY [Alpheus] Benton, b. May 1852, m. 21 years; wf. Margarite, b. Nov. 1848; ch. Fannie, Thomas, & George, & sister Victor(i)a, b. Mar. 1860. SELBY, Paterick E., 16, ward of Thomas E. FLANAGAN, 41, Clayton Twp. Harrison T., Perry Co., OH, 1910, SELBY, Earl, 26, with sister Anna, 39, & h. Mont W. McDONALD, 47, & family. --He was named as brother Earl (Pat) SELBY of Akron in her obituary, Zanesville Signal, 4 Feb. 1958. Harrison Twp., Perry Co., OH, 1920 / 1930, Akron, OH, SELBY Patrick C., 35 = Earl, 46 Wf. Mary A., 30 / 40 Mary G., 5 = Genevieve, 15 Paul E., 4 / 14 Catherine A. 2 = Angeline, 12 Margaret R., 8 mos. / 10 -- 1930 only: Joseph, 9; Frederick, 7; Edward, 5; Grace, 3; Thomas, 1. So, we have Patrick Earl SELBY (19 Jan. 1884, Perry Co., OH - 14 Apr. 1965, Akron, Summit Co. OH) of Jeremiah B., Thomas Cook(e), Eli, & Mordecai SELBY. Here's the earliest proof: Will of Mordecai SELBY, Anne Arundel Co., MD, 23 Oct. 1779, pr. 15 Je. 1781. To son Nicholas, 75 acres from Break Neck Hill to Croney's [Crow Nest] Bottom, including the dwelling where he lives. To son John, tract where he lives, part of Rochester. To sons Mordecai, Obediah, Eli, & Wm. How(e) SELBY, equal shares of residue as they come of age. To daus. Hannah & Honor at sixteen or marriage. Wife Hannah, her thirds, wife & son Mordecai coexs. Wit. Joseph HOBBS, James BARNES of N., & James BEASING. Notice that son Mordecai was not of age when the will was made in 1779, but he must have been close to have been named a coexecutor. There were quite a few land transactions among the above, as brothers moved away and sold to brothers. I have the marriage record from the Hall of Records: Eli SELBY, 23 Jan. 1794, Ruth SHIPLEY, by (minister) DORSEY. The sheet with this doesn't say, but it was Baltimore Co. Here's the release proving children of Eli SELBY: Perry Co., OH, E:123, heirs of John SELBY, son of Eli, 28 Sep. 1830. Indenture by & between George & wf. Hannah MAINS, Henry & wf. Margaret SHANER, Isaac & wf. Juliann GARDNER, Frederick & wf. Hariet GROVES, Jonas & wf. Mary GROVES, all of Perry Co., OH, of one part, & Thomas & Joshua SELBY of Perry Co., OH, of the other part. Witness that parties of the first part, for $175, release unto Thomas & Joshua SELBY, all their rights as heirs of John SELBY, decd., being eighty acres, west half of Section 1 NW, Twp. 15, Range 15, Perry Co., OH. Ohio, CrossRoad of Our Nation, Oct-Dec. 1976, 17:4, Rehoboth Cem., Perry Co., OH: SELBY, Eli, d. 4 July 1877, 95-11-22 {sic, d. 1857}; wf. Ruth, d. 15 May 1853, 85-2-3 Son John, d. 31 Aug. 1829, aged 29 Son Eli M., d. 28 Aug. 1858, 25-1-20 Wm. J., son of Thomas & Julia, no dates. MAINS, George, d. 30 Mar. 1875 84-1-4; wf. Hannah [SELBY], 16 Mar. 1871, 76-8-8. There have been different readings of the stones at Rehoboth, and all say they are difficult to decipher. Eli, d. 1858, was not son of Eli, had to have been son of Thomas. There are other SELBY burials at Rehoboth not included in the above list, and there's no guarantee that the other information is 100% factual. |
