With such little to go on, you'd need a genealogist who was vastly experienced, tremendously intelligent, and above all, devilishlyhandsome. Dang! Today is your lucky day! These are in the order I found them, and one is false, so read to the bottom. I found them in 1920 first. 1920 United States Federal Census > Ohio > Perry Co. > Harrison Twp. > District 63 (All Birthplaces - person, father, mother - are "Ohio") Selby, Patrick C, head, 35, laborer in coal mine ---, Mary A, wife, 30 Mary G, Dau, 5, Paul E, son, 4 Catherine A, dau, 2 [Indexed as "Catherine P", because the right-hand leg of the "A" is short] Margaret R, Dau, 8/12ths [census taken Jan 2, 1920] ================================== In 1930 the family moved to Akron and some used their middle names to throw us off the track. I'm a human bloodhound. They are at 819 Keeney Street, which Earl owns. Google Maps > Street view has it pictured, but I can't tell which one it is. It is worth $5,400. He is a fireman in the Gas industry. I have no idea what that means. 1930; Census Place: Akron, Summit, Ohio; Roll: 1874; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 5; Image: 349.0. Earl Selby, 46 Mary Selby, 40 Genevieve Selby, 15 Paul E Selby, 14 Angeline Selby, 12 (Catherine, the sly vixen!) Margaret Selby, 10 Joseph Selby, 9 Frederick Selby, 7 Edward Selby, 5 Grace Selby, 3 3/12 Thomas Selby, 1 Earl was 29 at first marriage, Mary 24. That puts it about 1916. Census taken April 4, 1930. ================================== I'd bet 3:1 this is Patrick Earl in 1910, because he's in Harrison Twp. He's a boarder. The name of the town is "Crookerville Village". 1910; Census Place: Harrison, Perry, Ohio; Roll: T624_1222; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 127; Image: 710. Mont W McDonald 47 Anna McDonald 39 Madeline McDonald 17 Louise McDonald 13 Pauline McDonald 10 Genevieve McDonald 8 Anna McDonald 1 Earl Selby, 26, Oh, Oh, Oh. He is a "P*ger", where "*" is "u" or "ee" or "in", industry is Pottery. ================================= This one is more iffy. The name is perfect, but the birth year is off by 3, and the month by 8. Since the 1900 asked month and year, people were usually accurate with it. The second grandson's name is odd; "Erwil" is what it looks like in the images. It isn't that, but I can't figure it out. 1900; Census Place: Madison, Butler, Ohio; Roll: T623_1244 Page: 4B; Enumeration District: 18. Kate Selby, 63, head, Geb 1837, Oh, Penn, MaryL, farmer Jettie Selby, 22, dau, Nov 1877, Oh, Oh, Oh (as are the rest) Earl P Selby, 12, GrSon, Aug 1887 Erwil Selby, 11, GrSon, Jan 1889 Elwood Seibert, 24, servant (fancy name for farm hand; he wasn't M'lady's butler) ================================= http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi PATRICK SELBY b. 19 Jan 1884 d. Apr 1965 LR Ohio There are a couple of possibilities for Mary. This one caught my eye because of Akron: MARY SELBY 29 Jun 1889 Jul 1980 LR 44310 (Akron, Summit, OH) Ohio Deaths, a subscription data base, has Name: Patrick E Selby Residence: Akron, Summit, Ohio Death Date: 14 Apr 1965 Hospital of Death: Home City of Death: Akron Certificate: 32576 Age at Death: 81 Married and Name: Mary A Selby Birth State: Ohio Residence City: Akron, Summit, Ohio Death Date: 21 Jul 1980 Age at Death: 91 Hospital of Death: St Thomas Hospital Medical Ctr City of Death: Akron Certificate: 053569 Widowed ====================================== I found this and whooped. The Zanesville Signal (Zanesville, Ohio) > 1958 > February > 4 Perry Co Native Dies In Maryland CROOKSVILLE -- Mrs Anna L McDonald, 86, a Crooksville resident for 60 years, died Monday in Blatimore, Md, at the home of her daughter, Mrs William McCray. Here he is: 1900; Census Place: Clayton, Perry, Ohio; Roll: T623_1313 Page: 7B; Enumeration District: 57. Thomas E Flanagan, 41 Mary A Flanagan, 38 Thomas F Flanagan, 9 Mary M Flanagan, 7 Rose G Flanagan, 6 Anna B Flanagan, 7/12 Paterick E Selby, 16 His relationship to Thomas is "Ward", but given the times, there is a good chance he is nephew to one of them or cousin. Here is Anna in 1900. Louise is sister-in-law. 1900; Census Place: Harrison, Perry, Ohio; Roll: T623_1313 Page: 7A; Enumeration District: 61. Mont McDonald 37 Anna McDonald 29 Madline McDonald 7 Louise McDonald 4 Pauline McDonald 11/12 Louise Selby 23 ======================================= The Mormons have the 1880 on-line for free. Here is Jeremiah, upholding the fine old tradition of hiding out under a middle name. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp Clayton, Perry, Ohio; p. 87A Household: (Name, Relation, Marital Status, Gender, Race, Age, Birthplace, Occupation Father's Birthplace, Mother’s Birthplace) Perry B. There are four people who have Jeremiah and Angelina on the Mormon PRF, which is like the WFT except you can see who contributed, look them up and call them. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=prf/search_PRF.asp&clear_form=true =================== I hope this helped. I'm not related; I do GenForum like normal people do crossword puzzles. |
