Yes Robb does originate in Scotland - They came to Ireland with the plantations and later. The Clan links are uncertain at best and non-existant at worse. Robb is normally considered a sept of the MacFarlane clan - but I have found NO evidence to support this - apart from a reference to MacRobb being a sept originally (Robb has just been added on in later clan studies). Most examples of the surname Robb appear to have come from lowland areas (outside clan influence) from sons of someone called Robert (before surnames were used). It is possible some Robbs have a Highland origin - but this is unlikely to be proved by anything other than DNA studies... steven |
