Hi
I am trying to clarify the wives of James CHALLINOR, who was a grain dealer in Sydney, NSW Australia.

James married Janet SOMMERVILLE in 1864, in Sydney but on the certificate it states he was a 'Widower'.

I searched the NSW deaths for a likely former wife and found a Mary A. CHALLINOR who died (Reg Number 1095/1863) the year before in 1863 it says her father's name was WOODS, his first name 'unknown'.

There is a birth the year before to a James CHALLINOR and Mary A. CHALLINOR in Sydney.
RegNumber 880/1856 CHALLINOR        CHARLES J

So Mary may have died in childbirth and James remarried Janet SOMERVILLE the following year.

However, just to confuse and confound the issue, I have found another Mary A. CHALLINOR married to a Samuel CHALLINOR.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Brenda
