Barbara: I am not sure if this will of any help, but Cornelius Thomas Challoner (the spelling varies)was born in Lutterworth in Leicestershire and was christened on 7th July 1833. A bit late for you, but he had chidren, I think, George Henry Challoner, about 1857 or 59. I think that he was not using Cornelius on the 1881 census, but Thomas. I am still working on this, but I think that he is my mother-in-law's great grandfather. We have spent a lot of time looking for Thomas Challoner, and only found out that we should have been looking for Cornelius when we received a copy of George Henry Challoner's marriage certificate. In any event, the Thomas Challoner on the 1881 census is some relation, as Arthur R. Roland Challoner was a witness on my mother-in-law's father's marriage. Would love to hear if you have turned anything else up. Jenny
