I have a question concerning the family of George W. Cearley (s/o George and Polly Lowdermilk Cearley).
Using Ancestry.com's 1880 searchable census, I find a George M. Cearley with wife Hilarie H. in Dooley, Union Co. GA. Is this the correct family?
Wouldn't you love to know what "Hilarie's" realy first name was? I've seen it as Hilah, Hylie, Hilia and at least a dozen other ways. Can we all agree on Hulda as the middle H?
I'm looking at this family because Hilah (that's the one I like) was the sister of my great great grandfather, Thomas W. Brown. (They are both children of John Wesley Brown of Fannin County - formerly of Cherokee Cnty. NC and briefly of eastern TN.) I'm trying to trace the descendants of all 8 of his siblings who scattered to the four corners after 1890.
I would also like to have some clarification on two other marriages of Geoge and Polly's sons that I believe involved members of my line.
I'd like to be able to confirm that Altha Bollin Brown that married Larkin Cearley was Hilah's sister. Like Hilah, this lady's name has been butchered in records. I have Berlina and Perlina and a couple of other variations but I believe they're all the same Altha Bollin. Also, what became of this family? I've had no luck finding them after 1870.
Additionally, any information on the marriage of Rufus Cealey to Elizabeth Young would be welcome and helpful. I think there is a connection between that Young family to my Browns but I'm stuck trying to prove it.
I also have in-law ties to these children through Thompson and Walker marriages.
All info, suggestions and guidance very welcome.
