Searching for a/any Daniel CARVER/ born abt. 1834-35

Does anyone have a Daniel CARVER b: 1834-35? He lived in Shelby County, Alabama in 1878 and married a widow named Harriett DENNIS STEERS, on February 28, 1878. He was 45 years old at that time. They were on the 1880 census for Shelby County. According to that census, Daniel was born in Maine, as was his parents. I'm not sure that information is correct because on several other census, he is listed as born Virginia, Ireland, Cuba (English), and on one it appeared they started to write Iowa and wrote it as this----IowIreland. It is so confusing I am not sure where Daniel was actually from. He apparently died after 1892 and before 1900. One family line was told that Daniel was a sea captain and died at sea---hence no burial location. Another line was told he just got on his horse and rode away never to be heard from. Daniel and Harriett had four sons: William Daniel, Horace Ludlow, Jesse C., and Frank CARVER. I have been stone-walled with this family line for years and would greatly appreciate any information.
