Rob, I know we have been in contact before however I would refer you to my posting of October 10, 2000 regarding my GG Grandfather, James Carse, born c1817 in Co Down. The names Samuel, James and John occur frequently in my family. There is also an old tale of an American connection that has been handed down with little detail. It is not impossible that your Samuel and my James were cousins. My family come from the townland of Magherascouse within walking distance and NNE of Ballygowan. Carse Hill is a prominent feature. My G Grandfather John emigrated to Australia in 1875 but frequently returned to Co Down including 1900-1911 when he lived at Castle Espie House near Comber.
Do you (or any reader) know from where in Co Down Samuel came?
