James Carse, murder and Horatio Nelson
Posted by: Geoff Carse Date: October 31, 2000 at 02:44:39

James Carse was tried and found guilty of the murder of Sarah Hass and hanged on 19 Dec 1787, then dissected and anatomised. – James slit Sarah’s throat while he was drunk. Extracted from a photocopy of an original script entry of the jury verdict obtained for the Old Baily from the City of London Archives on 10 May 2000
“17th. December 1787, trial of James Carse for murder in London”
Entry in “Life Chronology” of Horatio Nelson on-line at http://rjt.co.uk/Nelson/html/life_chronology.htm
“Captain Nelson had known Carse many years earlier and gave evidence as a character witness at the trial. At the time, Nelson was just another sea captain and his evidence obviously didn't make any difference” E-mail form Bob Walker, The Nelson Society. nelson.society@rjt.co.uk 24 May 2000.
This trial was reported in the Belfast Newsletter 25-28 Dec 1787 but I haven’t been able to get a copy of the article. Can anyone help? There is a possibility that James was a son or Co Down. Does anyone want to own him?
