Here is the info I have on Joseph Jr. Can you help me fill in any of the blanks? Linda. Joseph Carlisle (4) {Joseph (3), William (2), William (1)}, was born in Goshen, Vermont, 1809/10. He m. He m. 1st in Goshen, 14 Dec., 1828 Polly Allen (b. Goshen, Vt., 1814, dau. of Reuben & Polly (Clark) Allen.). When the 1850 census was taken, they were living in Orwell (Addison Co.) Vermont. Joseph was a self-employed day laborer. Living with the family was a town pauper, Jehiel L. Lawrence (b. Vt. age 12). This may have been a child ofo his sister, Anna Lawrence. We are not certain. Polly died . Joseph m. 2nd, as her 2nd husband, Mrs. Relief Sawyer (b. NY, 1814). When the 1860 census was taken, Joseph was living in Colton (St. Lawrence Co) NY with his second wife on her little place valued at $100, and her children: Marietta Sawyer, b. NY. 1841; Phirilla Sawyer, b. Vt. 1848; Persis Sawyer, b. Vt. 1851; and Celia Sawyer, b. NY, 1859. Also living with them were his two sons, Luman (age 18), and Allen (age 14). Joseph d. 26 April, 1886. Children: 1. Henry S., b. Goshen, 30 Dec., 1831, died young. 2. Franklin, b. Goshen, 11 Nov., 1834. He m. 1864, Olive (b NY, June, 1834). Frank was age 16 yrs. old in 1850, and living in Orwell, Vt. with Benjamin Needham. When the 1870 census was taken, he was living in Spring Valley (Fillmore Co.) Minnesota with his family. In 1880,, they had their own farm in Spring Valley. Franklin d. before 1900. Olive was then 65 yrs. old and a widow, living with her daughter Addie in Alexandria (Douglas Co.) Minnesota. (Children: (1) Allen Wales, b. Iowa, 29 Jan., 1865. He m. Alice M. McPhillps. He d. in Barnum, Minn. 1 June, 1925; (2) Merton, b. Minn. 1868; (3) Addie A., b. Minn. April, 1872). 3. George T., b. Goshen, 12 March, 1837 4. Richard H., b. Goshen, 13 Sept., 1838. He m. Catherine "Kate" Annette Haskell. When the 1860 census was taken, Richard was 31 years old and working as a farmhand for Elijah and Matilda Thomas in Russell (St. Lawrence Co) New York. After his marriage, they moved to Osceola in Lewis County, New York. He had a farm there valued at $1,000 when the 1870 census was taken. They had additional personal property vaued at $175. They remained only a short time before moving to Ottawa County, Michigan. (Children: (1) Winnie Adelaide, b. NY, 1868, she m. Frank Barnes Squire; (2) Ada L., b. 1870. She m. Merrill Boody; (3) Algernza "Gernie" b. 1873). 5. Allen, b. Orwell, Vt. 1844. He m. Elsie (b. NY, 1842). Allen was a Civil War soldier. He enlisted 1 Dec., 1861 as a private in Co. "C", 92nd NY Infantry. He was discharged 6 Feb., 1865. He served 4 yrs, 2 months and 5 days. Both Elsie's parents were immigrants from Scotland to America. In 1870, they were renting a farm in Pierrepont (St. Lawrence Co) NY near the Ellsworth post office. They were still residents of Pierrepont in 1890. (Children: (1) Sarah, b. NY, 1869; (2) Mary, b. NY, 1872; (3) William, b. NY, 1875; (4) Franklin, b. NY, 1879). 6. Newman, b. Orwell, Vt. 1846. 7. Levi, b. Orwell, Vt. 1848 Notify Administrator about this message?
