On the 1830 Bedford County TN census were listed two William Carlisle's. Both in the same age bracket. The William that died in Bedford Co was the son of Nathaniel Carlisle who was b. in Va and had moved to Halifax Co, NC.

My John Carlisle was also in Bedford Co on the 1830 census, and am fairly certain ( as one can be without hard copy proof) that he was a nephew to William, and was Nathaniel's grandson. He was abt sixteen years old when he arrived, as the apprintice record gives the date of the court order and John was b, in late 1810. Do not believe he would have been in Bedford Co without having had relatives there.

John would have been the son of John Carlisle and Elizabeth Nichols, Halifax, NC. John (Sr) died after 1825.

It's possible that the two William's were from the same family line. I did talk to a descendent of the William in Jackson Co, TN, and they were unaware of a connection. Certainly doesn't mean there wasn't one, though.
