Source: January 10, 2007 Daily Southerner newspaper, Tarboro, NC LOUISE GREEN CARLISLE Louise Green Carlisle, 90, of Tarboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007. She was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. Born Feb, 16, 1916, in Jackson, Miss, she was the daughter of Garner Wynn and Winifred Calhoun Green. She was a graduate Gunston Hall in Washington, D.C. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Tarboro. A devoted member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, she worked actively in the women of the church, who awarded an honorary membership in the Presbyterian Women. She also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Well into her eighties, she faithfully visited the sick and the elderly. Her great love for children led her to volunteering in the Tarboro schools and to serve as a member of the Tarboro School Board. She was selected by Gov. Terry Sanford to serve on the North Carolina Citizens Committee for Better Schools. She was a servant to her community, coaching young girls basketball, and at 87, serving as a volunteer for victims of Hurricane Floyd. An avid tennis fan and player, she could be seen on the courts into her 80s, She is survived by her husband of 66 years, J. Benjamin Carlisle; a son, Sam Q. Carlisle II and wife, Cathy; two daughters, Louise Hamilton and Sallie Carlisle; three grandchildren, Louise Carlisle-Tomm, Charles Benjamin Carlisle and Elise Hamilton; and a brother, Joshua Green. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 tonight at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 E. St. James St., Tarboro or to Lineberger Cancer Institute, UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, N.C. Notify Administrator about this message?
