Hiram John Gregg was my great grandfather. He married Lavonia Gregg 1 January 1867 in Crenshaw Co, AL
Hiram John Gregg had a sister Samantha Jane Gregg that married James Washington Carlisle, brother of Lavonia.
Hiram John Gregg had a sister Lydia Ann Gregg that married John William CARLILE........ John's parents were said to be James CARLISLE born 1803 in SC or NC and Elizabeth unknown born 1810.
These Gregg's, Carlisle's and Carlile's came to Texas after the Civil War. They settled in Montgomery, Anderson, Henderson, Grimes, Walker and other surrounding counties.
John William CARLILE is believed to have changed the spelling of his name and many of his children continued with this spelling. One however changed his named back to CARLISLE when he married as his wife said Carlisle should not be spelled without the "S".
I have 15 years of research that I will gladly exchange for your information.
