Some more info re Elijah C. Willcockson: Buried in Salem-
Willcoxen Cemetery,Liverpool Twnshp, Fulton Co., ILL. Military grave marker reads: "Elijah Willcockson, Captain,
Ill. Vols., Black Hawk War, 1831-1832." The same marker also stated that he served in the "NC Militia, War of 1812". Book titled "The Sauks And The Black Hawk War with
Biographical Sketches, Etc." by Hon. Perry A. Armstrong of Morris, Ill., pub 1887, page 687 shwos E. Wilcockson serving as a lieutenant in Capt.John Sain's Co. (mustered in June 7, and out on Sept.4, 1832). Private S. Wilcockson also listed for the same unit. So I am still looking for the battles, campaigns, activities of this unit in the War.
A "History of Fulton Co., Illinois" (pub. 1879)page 840, under the Willcoxen Family heading mentions Elijah Willcoxen as having two years in the Black Hawk War, first as a lieutenat and then as a captain. He came to Fulton Co. in 1830 from Estill Co. KY, and originally from NC.
Born 1789, died 1860. Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
John D. Varnes
